Despite an ever-aging population, the number of geriatricians has steadily decreased.
Geriatricians are needed in hospitals, in nursing homes, long-term care facilities, primary care, and more.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, nursing homes received some additional attention, but more work needs to be done, and it must continue after the pandemic is gone.
We talked to geriatrician Dr. Asif Merchant of Newton-Wellesley Hospital & Tufts University about all-things geriatrics.

Dr. Uli Chettipally is the Founder of the InnovatorMD Network, and the co-founder and former CTO of the CREST Network at Kaiser Permanente. He’s also the author of the book “Punish the Machine! The Promise of Artificial Intelligence in Health Care.”

Through his work with the CREST Network, the team layered AI technology over Electronic Health Records to provide real-time data to physicians, allowing doctors to more easily assess patient risk. More than one-million patients per year go through the system.
